What is a Symbiotic relationship?
A symbiotic relationship is when two living things live in a close area together. There are three types of symbiotic relationships; commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism. Commensalism is when one species benefits and the other doesn't but it's not harmed. Mutualism is when both species benefits. Parasitism is when one species benefits and the other is harmed by it.

Koala relationships
As you know, Koalas live in trees every single day of their life. Most of the time, they are sleeping. Since they sleep so much, it is hard to interact with other living things. Since they live in the tree, it has a relationship with it. All animals need these top three requirements: food, water, and shelter. The Koala can get many of these things from the trees without hurting it. This is an example of a commensalism relationship. Koalas eat the leaves off the tree. The tree provides food for the Koala. Koalas don't need lots of water because the eucalyptus leaves are 55% water. That means that the tree that supplies the leaves, supplies the water. Koalas live in the tree and are protected by it, which is where it gets it shelter from.

Overview
So, Koalas and the trees have a commensalism relationship because the Koala benefits off of the tree and the tree isn't harmed. Without the trees, Koala wouldn't be able to survive.
